PIME Call To Action: SAVE Act

Original PIME article

By Darlene Hennessy | June 10, 2024

Dear friends,

I have been attending a weekly Election Integrity Network National Working Group called Only Citizens Vote.

We have a CALL TO ACTION to reach out to our Congressional delegation to urge them to be co-sponsors of the SAVE Act.

Out of Michigan's 13 U.S. Representatives, only one is a co-sponsor: Rep. Jack Bergman. (@RepJackBergman, 1st District)

Your help is needed as the bill could move out of Committee this week and co-sponsors cannot be added after the bill leaves Committee.

The link to the bill is HERE with co-sponsors listed by state. Resources to help us navigate details and ideas for messages are HERE, including the Digital Toolkit for the Only Citizens Vote Coalition.

Messaging, in general, should be positive. Please encourage our U.S. Representatives to take action to protect ALL lawful voters.

  • This Act enhances our ability to ensure that only citizens vote.

  • It protects US-born AND naturalized citizens who worked hard to get here in accordance with law.

  • Opponents will argue that it is currently unlawful for non-citizens to vote in federal elections. The truth is true in principle, but current laws do not put citizenship checks in place. The SAVE act will ensure that only citizens vote in any and all elections, and it ADDS the requirement for citizenship verification at registration that is currently missing.

Counter argument to the left:

  • The only people it "suppresses" are non-citizens from voting.

  • Why would anyone not wish to protect non-citizens from innocently committing a voting felony that could lead to theiir deportation or denial of their citizenship application?

Please feel free to use your preferred method of contact (phone, email, Facebook, X tagging) to urge Congressional members in Michigan to join as a co-sponsor.

The SAVE Act now has 90 co-sponsors. Let's work together to increase that number by at least Michigan's five conservative representatives. Here are the five who have yet to sign on as co-sponsors of the bill:

Below is a sample Tweet urging congressional members who had not yet signed onto SAVE to do so. Please note that the approach is a carrot, not a stick. If you post on X, please @ EINWatchdogs, so EIN can amplify your tweet. Hashtags include: #onlycitizensvote | #SAVEAct2024 | #SAVE2024

Huge thanks from the voters of Michigan to its member of Congress, @RepJackBergman, who is already a co-sponsor of the SAVE Act. We hope that @JohnMoolenaar (2nd district), @RepHuizenga (4th district), @RepWalberg (5th district), @RepLisaMcClain (9th district), and @JohnJamesMI (10th district) will also take a leadership role and protect our precious naturalized Michigan citizens and US-born voters by becoming SAVE Act co-sponsors. Thank you, Rep. Jack Bergman! #Save2024 #SaveAct2024 @CletaMitchell @ocvcoalition @RepChipRoy @honestelections @TPPatriots https://congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/8281/cosponsorss=2&r=1&q=%7B%22search%22%3A%22SAVE+Act+chip+roy%22%7D
