Volunteer Role Descriptions:
Communications
Michigan Fair Elections Institute seeks dedicated volunteers for its Communications and Outreach team to share investigative findings, legal analysis, and legislative efforts.
Communications Editor/Director

Quality Control & Verification: Reviews, edits for grammar/syntax, and inserts links for published content

Writer

Content creation: drafts articles, editorial pitches, and supporting visual media across key beats (litigation, legislation, news, etc.)

Time commitment: 5-7 hours/week
Data Analyst

Strategy & Measurement: Builds email lists, analyzes engagement/fundraising metrics, suggests communication topics, and creates measurement systems

Photographer

Visual Documentation: Takes photos of events, volunteer meetings, and state legislature testimony

Graphic Designer

Soles to Rolls
The "Soles to Rolls" initiative is focused on ensuring the accuracy of voter rolls through localized data analysis and in-person canvassing. These roles require commitment to detailed, on-the-ground work. Overall Goal: To systematically verify voter roll accuracy by combining data analysis with organized field presence, ensuring all findings are recorded and tracked.
Soles to Rolls Leader

Soles to Rolls Leader: Process Manager & Flow Control. Receives information from Data Analyst; Provides updates to Record Keeper. Passes data requests to Canvasser Leads and findings/updates to the Record Keeper

Canvasser Lead

Canvasser Lead: Field Team Organizer: Receives walk lists, organizes and equips canvassing volunteers for door-to-door work, and ensures findings are correctly reported.
Data Analyst

Data Preparation: Analyzes data to identify targets and creates the precise walk lists used by the Canvasser Leads.

Time Commitment: 2-10 hours/week
Canvasser

Data Collection (Field): Goes door-to-door using provided walk lists to gather data from residents and collects affidavits if investigative anomalies are present.
Record Keeper

Data Input & Tracking: Inputs and maintains the official record of all data gathered from walk lists. Tracks findings and the progress of Clerk Advocate action
County Task Forces:

Local Leadership & Recruitment: Leads all local network efforts in the county. Organizes meetings, manages activities, and recruits local volunteers.

Investigation and Legal Strategies
This team handles the critical process of researching issues, building case files, and determining the strategic value and viability of potential litigation. Overall Goal: To systematically vet potential legal challenges, gather necessary evidence, and manage the administrative pathway from initial investigation through to active litigation.

Leads Investigation Team; Directs Litigation Plan: Leads the investigation team and manages the overall litigation plan and strategy for a given case.

Investigator

Fact Research & Reporting: Researches the facts related to an issue and compiles all findings into a detailed report for case development. Reports research findings to the team.

Lawyer

Strategic Legal Review: Reviews issues and lawsuits to determine priority, value, likelihood of success, expense, and time to completion. Provides strategic legal guidance to the team.

Administrator

Logistics & Liaison: Facilitates case progression from investigation to plaintiff recruitment to formal litigation. Manages meetings, agendas, notes, and communication. Communicates with the Litigation Team, Comms Team, and plaintiffs.

Clerk Advocacy
The Clerk Advocacy Team focuses on establishing positive, helpful relationships with election officials at the county and local level, utilizing knowledge of election law and processes.

County-level Leadership & recruitment: Serves as the general leader in the county. Organizes meetings, manages activities, and recruits local volunteers. Communicates with the County Team and gives weekly summaries in Leadership Meetings.

County Clerk Advocate

Executive Board Liaison: Requires deep knowledge of election law. Focuses on building a positive, helpful relationship with the County Clerk through regular contact. Must reside in the county. Works directly with the County Clerk; Required to undergo internal training.

Jurisdiction Clerk Advocate

Local Liaison & Field Support: Must reside in the city, village, or township. Works directly with local clerks; Liaison between Soles to Rolls team and Clerk; Required to undergo internal training.

Legislative Advocacy
Legislative Team The Legislative Team is responsible for monitoring and analyzing election-related policy developments within the state legislature. Overall Goal: To track key legislative action, synthesize complex bill information into clear summaries, and inform the Network's strategy and public communications efforts.

Bill Research & Summary: Collaboratively reviews, researches, and summarizes pending bills in the Michigan legislature related to election integrity.
