1. Dixon won’t run but says Benson must be stopped

Earlier this month, former GOP candidate for Michigan governor in 2022, Tudor Dixon, announced she would not be running for U.S. Senate in 2026.

In a July 5 post on X, Dixon said her focus is on “protecting and advancing” the policies of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.

The tone of Dixon’s X post changed at the close of her announcement and shifted away from the U.S. Senate race to statewide Michigan races. She told her followers: “But first, it is critical that Michigan Republicans win in 2026.”

Dixon then turned to her aim on Gretchen Whitmer, saying she “has been a disaster for our state,” but she said Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, who is, so far, the top Democrat candidate for Michigan governor, “would be infinitely worse.”

Dixon called Benson “dangerous” and “a conniving career far-left agitator.” The Midwesterner boosted Dixon’s post on its X account where it was reposted more than 200 times.

2. RCV promoters align with anti-Trump protesters

Rank MI Vote (RMV), the non-profit organization promoting ranked choice voting (RCV) in Michigan, launched its petition drive for a constitutional amendment in concert with “Good Trouble Lives On” demonstrations protesting actions of the Trump administration.

In order for the proposed constitutional amendment enshrining ranked choice voting to appear on the 2026 general election ballot, Rank MI Vote and its supporters must gather nearly 500,000 petition signatures.

The Rank MI Vote petition drive officially kicked off on Thursday, July 17, the same day as the nationwide Good Trouble Lives On protests, chiefly organized by left-leaning nonprofit Indivisible.

Indivisible, the group responsible for organizing the nationwide No Kings protests on Flag Day (June 14), also helped organize the Good Trouble Lives On mass protests.

Planned for the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’ passing, the Good Trouble protests are described as “a national day of nonviolent action to respond to the attacks posed on our civil and human rights by the Trump administration.”

The Good Trouble protests were not always marches; in some cases, the protests were confined to a specific location.

According to a source who attended the Troy, Mich., Good Trouble protest, there were only a few display tables at the protest. In the photos below, on one side of the sidewalk was a table for Michigan Democrats and on the other side, directly across the sidewalk was a table for Rank MI Vote petitions.

Supporters of ranked choice voting claim the issue and their non-profit organizations are nonpartisan. For example, Rank MI Vote’s Facebook page says it is a “nonpartisan, nonprofit organization advocating for Ranked Choice Voting.”

But RMV petition workers believed Good Trouble protests against Trump and with a petition table across from Michigan Democrats would be fertile ground for RCV signatures.

We reached our goal!

THANK YOU generous, grassroots donors!

Your gifts enable MFEI to undertake important FOIA denial lawsuits, which each cost about $10,000.

When we win the case, legal fees should be refunded.  This money may allow us to pursue multiple government accountability lawsuits.
