STOCKBRIDGE, Mich. — Michigan Fair Elections Institute (MFEI) announced the formation of a commission to investigate Civera, a civic technology software platform providing election-related data tools to government agencies and the public.
MFEI Founder and Chair Patrice Johnson is convening the commission and will serve as interim leader. She stated, “Amid the questions circling around this product, we need to line up the facts. I’m delighted all three SOS candidates, including one who is currently using Civera, have gladly agreed to join and see where the facts lead.”
Civera offers a suite of products — including ElectionStats, ElectionShield, BallotVerifier, and Sunshine — designed to make civic data more accessible and to promote government transparency and accountability. The commission will examine these tools in the context of their impact on election transparency and integrity across jurisdictions where they are in use.
The following individuals have been appointed to serve on the commission:
• Anthony Forlini, candidate for Michigan Secretary of State
• Monica Yatooma, candidate for Michigan Secretary of State
• Amanda Love, candidate for Michigan Secretary of State
• Linda Sheckler, Ph.D. researcher, Pennsylvania Fair Elections
• Allison Nicolai, Ohio, data analyst
The commission's work will include a comprehensive investigation of Civera's products and their application in election administration, followed by a structured analysis of the platform's strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities as they relate to election transparency and the broader goal of maintaining public trust in the constitutional republic's processes.
"MFEI is committed to evidence-based evaluation of the tools and technologies that touch our elections," said Patrice Johnson, MFEI founder and chair. "This commission will provide a fair, independent, and rigorous assessment of Civera's role in the election ecosystem."
The commission will release its findings upon the conclusion of the investigation.
About Michigan Fair Elections Institute (MFEI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring election integrity through research, education, and advocacy.
