Ranked Choice Voting Debate Heats Up
All eyes are on ranked choice voting (RCV) as the next opportunity for the measure’s ballot language to be approved by Board of State Canvassers nears. On Friday, June 27, both sides will be gathering at the Binsfeld Office Building in Lansing to make public comment on the proposed ballot language.
“As of this moment, we don’t know if approval of the language will be on the Board of State Canvassers’ June 27 agenda,” explained MFEI volunteer Jeff Schaeper. “The agenda will be posted on Friday, June 20, but we believe it is likely to finally appear this month.”
Originally, Rank MI Vote, the organization pushing adoption of ranked choice voting statewide, planned to begin gathering signatures in April. Now, the earliest petitions could be signed is July, 90 days after their original start date.
At a recent RCV presentation in Macomb County, an MFEI source says the biggest concern was the RCV run-off process. “When the RCV presenter said run offs will be determined by machines, skepticism went up.”

County Clerk Convention Excludes MFEI
Michigan Fair Elections Institute’s application to host a vendor table at the Michigan Association of County Clerks’ convention has been declined.
Sheree Ritchie and Jeff Schaeper, Michigan Fair Elections Institute volunteers, met with Amanda Atkinson, the organization’s administrator, on June 4 to discuss the application process. Atkinson told Schaeper and Ritchie to submit an application with information about MFEI.
Atkinson forwarded MFEI’s application to MACC President Linda Talsma (Marquette County Clerk), who responded: “The MACC Board met and reviewed your request and found your organization is not a fit for what we are needing, there is limited space available for vendors so we always meet when a new one inquires. Thank you for your interest in our organization.”
“MFEI is an educational organization eager to serve Michigan’s county clerks, and we thought having a presence at their convention would help us build that bridge,” said Schaeper. “We’re disappointed but hope MACC will reconsider for next year.”
Benson Weighs In on LA Riots
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson took to X on Sunday, letting her followers know, “I am appalled that President Trump is deploying our own military to quell protests against his regime.”
Patty McMurray, reporting for The Gateway Pundit, noted, “The ratio of Benson’s “X” post tells quite a lot about the popularity of Michigan’s Democrat candidate for Governor; it currently has 266 re-tweets and 373 “likes” and almost 2,000 negative comments.
Anna Hoffman, a journalist for Michigan Enjoyer, called the tweet a “career ending post.” She went on to explain, “You just told us illegal immigrants are more important that Michigan citizens and when this comes to our state, you will let it burn down.”
Noted GOP activist Meshawn Maddock posted, “Watching YOUR campaign burn to the ground along with any chance the Dems had in 26 is the ONLY thing good to come out of the LA riots. Good luck with “winning back male voters.”
